How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place a loop resistance band around your thighs, just above your knees. Place your hands on your hips for balance.

  2. Shift your weight onto your right leg and lift your left foot slightly off the floor.

  3. Keeping your left leg straight, lift it to the side against the band's resistance, squeezing your hip abductors at the top of the movement.

  4. Slowly return your leg to the starting position with control. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then switch to the right leg.

Form tips

  • Exhale as you lift your leg and inhale as you return it to the starting position.

  • Maintain a slight bend in your standing leg for balance.

  • Keep your upper body straight and avoid leaning to the side.
