How to do it

  1. Begin by lying on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your hands behind your head with your elbows wide.

  2. Engage your core and lift your upper body into a crunch position, holding the contraction at the top.

  3. While holding the crunch, rotate your torso to the right. Return to the center.

  4. Lower your upper body back to the floor, then repeat the movement, this time rotating to the left. Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions.

Form tips

  • Avoid pulling on your neck with your hands; use your abdominal muscles to lift and rotate your torso.

  • Keep your elbows wide to ensure you are using your core muscles rather than your arms.

  • Make sure your lower back remains pressed against the floor throughout the exercise.
