# Meal plans

A **meal plan** is a reusable, multi-day eating schedule you build once and assign to any client. Meal plans live under **Dashboard → Nutrition → Meal plans**, alongside your recipes and foods. The recipes you add to a plan come from the **Recipes** tab - build them there first.

Unlike a training program (one workout per day), a meal-plan day holds **many meals**: breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, each with its own time.

Every plan is organised into **meal groups**. A new plan starts with four - **Meal 1** to **Meal 4** - and you can rename, reorder, add or remove them; each group's color is assigned automatically by its position (1st green, 2nd amber, 3rd indigo, 4th pink), so there's nothing to pick. Groups belong to the plan itself, so an empty group still shows as a row waiting for a meal. Each meal sits in a group. (These are separate from the optional *tags* you can put on a recipe.)

The meal-plans list shows each plan's **total calories**, **average daily calories**, and its **protein / carbs / fat split** (%). Click any of those column headers to **sort**, or open **Filters** to narrow the list by min/max calorie or macro ranges.

## Building a meal plan

1. Open **Dashboard → Nutrition → Meal plans** and click **New meal plan**.
2. Give it a **Template name** at the top, and use **+ Add week** for a rotating cycle (week tabs appear).
3. The editor is the **same weekly table as a client's plan** - **meal groups down the side, days across the top**. A new plan starts with four groups (Meal 1-Meal 4). Click the **+** in any empty day cell to add a meal: search the recipe catalog (grouped by meal-type category) or **Create new recipe** inline.
4. **Manage groups right in the table**: click a group name to rename, drag a row to reorder, use the row's trash to remove, or **+ Add group** in the bottom row. Drag a meal to another cell to move it, or use the duplicate icon to copy it to the next day. Click a meal to edit its recipe.
5. Click **Save**.

System meal plans (shared with everyone) open as a copy the first time you edit them, so the original stays untouched.

## Building a client's plan

Open a client and go to the **Nutrition plan** tab - you land straight in the builder, with a **Weekly** / **Calendar** toggle at the top. No start date or repeat setup is needed: a weekly plan is simply a Monday-Sunday rotation, and you add another week only if you want a longer cycle.

- **Weekly** - a meal table: **meal groups down the side, days across the top**, one week at a time. You see at a glance what's in each group across the whole week; empty groups stay visible so nothing is forgotten. **Manage groups right in the table**: click a group name to rename it, drag a row up or down to reorder, use the row's trash icon to remove it, or **+ Add group** in the bottom row to add one. To add a meal, click the **+** in any empty day cell. **Drag a meal** onto another cell to move it to a different group or day, or use the **duplicate icon** on a meal's right edge to copy it to the next day. Use **+ Add week** for a 2-week (or longer) rotation. A summary at the bottom shows the **daily average** calories and macros (averaged over the days that have meals).
- **Calendar** - a monthly overview for checking specific dates. Each day shows its calorie total and the first few meals (group label + recipe); hover a day to reveal a **duplicate icon** that copies that day's meals to the next day, or click a day to open its panel, where you can add or edit meals **and Meal groups** (add, rename, reorder) without leaving the calendar. Use the calendar to review the plan on real dates; use Weekly to build the rotation.

In the weekly table, click the **+** in an empty cell to add a meal there: the group is set by that row, choose a recipe - recipes are **grouped by meal-type category** (breakfast, lunch, …) with a search at the top, and a **Create new recipe** button pinned at the bottom authors one inline (saved to your Recipes library *and* added to the day). Each cell holds one meal - add another group for more meals a day. Click a meal to edit its details (group, recipe, time). If a recipe search finds nothing, a **Create** button appears right there. A recipe you just created shows up in the search so you can drop it into other days too - it's saved to the library once when you click **Save** (edit it in any slot and the latest version applies everywhere).

To start from a saved template, use **Use template** in the header. To reuse the current plan for other clients, use **Save as template** in the top bar.

You edit a client's nutrition plan inside a **draft** that **saves itself** - there's no Save button here. Create the draft from the client's header, rebuild it freely, then **Release** it to make the new plan live (training and nutrition release together). See [Releasing a new plan](releasing-plans).

## Customizing a client's plan

Editing a client's plan never changes the original template. On the client's plan you can:

- **Click a meal to edit its recipe** - this opens the recipe editor directly and forks the recipe into a client-owned copy you can tweak independently (the shared library recipe is never changed). To swap in a different dish, **remove the meal and add another** - there's no in-place recipe swap.
- **Remove** a meal from its editor, or **drag** a meal on the weekly grid to move it to another group/day.
- Open any day to see its calorie and macro totals.
