# Signing in with Google or Apple

You can sign in or sign up with a Google or Apple account instead of typing an email and password. Both work the same way. Where you find them depends on where you are:

- **Continue with Google** - on the **website**, on the sign-in and sign-up pages.
- **Continue with Apple** - in the **iOS app**, on the sign-in and sign-up screens.

Apple sign-in is iOS only: it isn't on the website, and it isn't on Android. In the app you will also see a Google button, but it isn't ready yet - tapping it says **Google sign-in is coming soon**. Use Apple, or your email and password, in the app.

## Signing up

The steps are the same for both providers:

1. Tap **Continue with Google** on the website, or **Continue with Apple** in the iOS app.
2. Pick the account you want to use and approve the request.
3. The first time, we ask one quick question - whether you're signing up as a **trainee** (you track your own training) or a **trainer** (you coach clients). Pick one and confirm.
4. That's it - you're in. Your provider has already verified your email address, so there's nothing else to confirm.

Your account isn't created until you answer that question, so nothing is left half-finished if you change your mind. No password is set - you sign in with Google or Apple each time.

## Already have an email and password account?

If the email from your provider matches an account you created with a password, we need to know the account is yours before the two are connected:

- **On the website (Google)**: we show a short prompt. Enter the password for your existing hi.fitness account and we link Google to it. Next time, **Continue with Google** signs you straight in.
- **In the iOS app (Apple)**: linking isn't available in the app yet. The app tells you the address already has an account with a password and asks you to sign in with that password instead.

## Apple and Hide My Email

When you sign in with Apple, Apple offers to **Hide My Email**. If you choose it, you share a private relay address that looks like `something@privaterelay.appleid.com` instead of your real one, and Apple forwards mail from us to your real inbox.

That relay address is what hi.fitness sees and what shows up as your email in **Settings**. It looks like a random string, and that's expected - it's a working address, and sign-in keeps working normally.

One thing worth knowing: because we only ever see the relay address, it doesn't match an account you created with your real address. If you already have a password account and want Apple sign-in on top of it later, choose to share your real address rather than hiding it.

## Troubleshooting

- **"Incorrect password" when linking on the website** - that's the password for your existing hi.fitness account, not your Google password. Forgot it? Use **Forgot password?** on the sign-in page to reset it, then try again.
- **Your name shows as "User" after signing up with Apple** - Apple shares your name only the very first time you authorize hi.fitness, and never sends it again. So if you deleted your account and signed up with Apple a second time, the new account can start with a placeholder name. Open **Settings** and fix your name there - it takes a moment and only happens once.
- **Don't see the Google button?** Google sign-in may not be enabled on your installation. You can always sign in with your email and password.
- **Don't see the Apple button?** It only appears in the iOS app, on iOS 13 and later. On Android and on the website, use Google (website) or your email and password.
