# Setting a password

If you created your account with **Sign in with Apple** or **Sign in with Google**, you never chose a
password. Everything works without one - but you can add one, so you can also sign in with your email
address: on the web, or anywhere Apple and Google sign-in isn't handy.

You add it in the mobile app.

## Add a password

1. Open the **More** tab, then **Settings > Sign-in methods**.
2. Under **Password**, tap **Set a password**.
3. Tap **Email me a code**. We send a 6-digit code to your account's email address.
4. Open the email and type the code into the app, together with your new password (at least 10
   characters, entered twice).
5. Tap **Set password**.

That's it. You can now sign in with your email address and password anywhere. Apple and Google
sign-in keeps working exactly as before - a password is added alongside it, not instead of it.

## Why a code and not a link

The app is already open on the screen waiting for the code, so a link would only send you out to a
browser. A code also works when you read your mail on a laptop.

The code is valid for **15 minutes**, and only the newest one counts - ask for another and the
previous one stops working. After five wrong attempts the code is used up and you'll need a new one.

### Didn't get the email?

- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Make sure you're looking at the address shown on the screen. That is where it went.
- Tap **Send a new code** and try again.

## Already have a password?

Then this option doesn't appear at all. To change a password you already have, use **Forgot
password?** on the sign-in page - see [Resetting your password](/help/getting-started/resetting-your-password).
