# Connecting your watch

hi.fitness runs on two kinds of watch, and they connect in two different ways. Open **More → Settings** and look under **Health & watches**: on iPhone you will see **Apple Health**, **Apple Watch** and **Garmin**; on Android, **Health Connect** and **Garmin**. That order is the order things are set up in - the health app first, then the watch.

## Apple Watch (iPhone only)

You never type a code for an Apple Watch.

1. Open the **Watch** app on your iPhone, scroll to **Available apps** and install **hi.fitness**.
2. Open hi.fitness on the watch once, with your iPhone nearby. It signs in to your account by itself.
3. **More → Settings → Apple Watch** shows whether the watch app is installed, whether the watch is connected right now, and the connected watch itself - with **Disconnect watch** if you ever need it.

While you track a workout on the phone, the watch streams your heart rate and calories into the tracker - that is the small heart bubble on the tracking screen - and the calories it measured are saved with the workout. You can also log sets, tick off meals and dictate a meal from the wrist.

## Garmin

A Garmin connects with a short code, because the watch and the phone have no direct link of their own.

1. On the watch, open **hi.fitness** and press **START**. It shows a six-character code.
2. On the phone, open **More → Settings → Garmin → Connect a watch** and type the code.
3. The watch notices within a few seconds and pulls your plan. From then on it works on its own: today's workout, your routines, your meals and calorie ring.

On the watch you log every set with the lower-right button, change to a different workout from the stop menu, and the heart rate and calories the watch records go into Garmin Connect as a strength activity while the sets go into hi.fitness.

## Disconnecting a watch

Each page manages its own watches: the **Apple Watch** page shows your connected Apple Watch, the **Garmin** page lists your connected Garmin watches. Tap **Disconnect watch** if you sell a watch or lend it to someone - it stops syncing with hi.fitness, and you can connect it again any time. Both pages also list what you can do on the watch.

## Heart rate and calories

Both watches record heart rate and calories on the wrist. Where those numbers land on the phone is decided by the health app: switch on **Import** under **Apple Health** or **Health Connect** and the activity your watch recorded - including workouts tracked outside hi.fitness - shows up on your training days. See **Apple Health and Health Connect** for what exactly comes in.
